Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741)

Susie et Margaret have created fabulous arrangements for four violas of Vivaldi’s so loved ‘Four Seasons’

Les Voix humaines Viol Consort : Margaret Little, Mélisande Corriveau, Felix Deak, Susie Napper, violas da gamba

It is with great joy that les Voix humaines offer at last their own interpretation of the famous concertos which are among the world’s most performed musical pieces. Indeed, there is not only a large number of recordings of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, but many musicians from different backgrounds want to perform this great universal score in their own style.

Besides the fact that this is a world premiere of the concertos arranged and performed on violas da gamba, the musicians also wanted the audience to discover the sonnets, included in the score, which were apparently written by Vivaldi himself. In addition to these sonnets, Vivaldi provided instructions such as "The barking dog" (in the second movement of "Spring"), "Languor caused by the heat" (in the first movement of "Summer"), and "the drunkards have fallen asleep" (in the second movement of "Autumn").

Les Voix humaines made the artistic choice to respect what Vivaldi precisely wrote in the score, therefore giving to the audience a chance to listen to the work from a new musical perspective, and the result is really refreshing. We also included some seasonal hits in each season, such as Gershwin’s « Summertime » and Kosma’s  « Autumn Leaves ».
